Obituary of Margaret Rose Griffin

It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Margaret Rose (Meggy) Griffin after a brief but courageous battle with cancer has gone to be with her Lord and Saviour on March 6, 2024. Meggy was born in Doaktown on Sept 24, 1948, to Bridget (Kennan) and Robin Lyons.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Mike Griffin, daughter Jill Seeley (Jason) and their children Josh, Griffin and Jeffery, son Peter (Dr. Ginette) and their children Olivier  and Sophie Rose, son Jason (Mel) and their children Gabriella, Mia and Kai, son David (Lisa) and their child Callie, and her siblings Faye Golding (Hoyt), Jackie Lyons (Louise), Mary Anne Dube (Donnie), Judy Chiasson (Charlie), Bunny Parnell (Dick), Danny Lyons (Lana), Jerry Lyons (Karen). Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sister Ethel McNeil (Norm) and brothers Bobby (Joan/Shirley), David (Wanda)and Donnie (Jane).

Meggy was loved by all that met her. She lived a life of kindness to everyone with never a cross word for anyone. For Meggy it was faith, family and friendship. She loved nothing better than to look after her family and if you lost count there are 19 of us. She dearly loved having a family around from one to 19. She was attentive to each and everyone. She had a strong faith and belief in God.

Meggy was a tremendous games player in particular card games of any kind. Her favorite card game was bridge.  She certainly excelled in the bridge clubs of which she was a member. In other card games and board games she always managed to win more than her share.

Meggy liked to travel and has been to most significant cities in North America, but her particular favourite place was Barbados. She and Mike spent 9 winters (Jan to March) from 2013 to 2023 in the warmth of the Caribbean. She loved her friends, the people of Barbados, the weather, the beaches, the day trips, the turtles and the great sense of relaxation that comes from going to the beach for hours with a good book.

When anyone was with Meggy it was a joyous occasion. The smiles came from within the heart with joy. She was all about family, friends and faith.

All who knew her agree we could not have had a better wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and person. She knew how to live, love, laugh and learn. She certainly left everyone in a better place for having known her. She will be deeply missed.

The arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (506 634 1701). A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at Castle Funeral Home.
