It’s nice to read about his life before I knew him. I remember him as a very generous man who was very social, with an ironic gruffness about him. He loved dancing, motorcycles, trucks and shih tzus. He and my dad, his late brother Roy, shared all those affections with the exception of the shih tzus.
I remember riding in the back of uncle Danny’s old ram pickup through the streets of Hamilton in the days when you could still do such things without fear of being charged for child abuse. I also got to take care of his beloved little dogs on a few occasions while he was doing some long hauls as a trucker. I’m thankful to have known him throughout much of my life and that I was able to take him out for coffee dates until he moved to North Bay. I remember him being generous to the point that it was probably detrimental to himself. He trusted easily, which, as anyone with that wonderful trait can tell you, sets you up to be taken advantage of. He never forgot anyone who did him wrong, but those experiences never hardened his generous heart, which is one of the things I admired and appreciated most about my gruff uncle Danny!
I’m thankful he made it home to New Brunswick and that you were able to be with him Angie, he spoke of you often while he was in Hamilton. look forward to a coffee with Danny and Jesus some day! Rest in peace uncle Danny, you were loved and appreciated more than you allowed yourself to know!
