Obituary of Joan Alma Garvin

After a valiant battle with COVID 19, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Joan Alma Garvin, on April 11, 2023, at the Kennebec Manor Nursing Home.  Born on September 25, 1935, in Saint John, NB, Joan was the daughter of the late Frank and Grace (nee Porter) Quigley.

Joan grew up in the City's South End, residing on Broad Street for much of her younger and married years.  She was a graduate of Saint John Vocational School.  On her 21st birthday, Joan married the love of her life, Robert Anthony Garvin, who affectionately called her "Joanne".  She and Bob were longstanding members of St. John The Baptist Church.

After Bob's passing, Joan left the South End and made her way to Regency Towers, where she formed many friendships.  When her health began to deteriorate, Joan joined the Dobbelsteyn Special Care Home Family for several years and then onto Kennebec Manor in Millidgeville.  Over the years at Kennebec Manor Joan had many roommates.  Her most recent roommate, Margaret (Marney) Sprague, quickly became Joan's partner in crime.  She and Marney shared many laughs and lots of fun together.

Joan is survived by her sons, Anthony (Tony) (Debbie), Robert (Carolyn); and her daughter, Darlene (Shane) Armstrong.  Joan was blessed with five grandchildren: Nicole, Olivia, Carter, Benjamin, and Jacob; and two great-grandchildren, Cole and Graciana.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert Garvin, and her parents, Frank and Grace.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to all who have assisted Joan over the years.  Your assistance and kindness will never be forgotten.

Resting at Castle Funeral Home (506) 634-1701 (309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John, NB), visitation for Joan will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM.  A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, beginning at 11:00 AM at the Castle Funeral Home Chapel.
