Obituary of Edgar Allain

Edgar Joseph Allain, husband of the late Maria Robichaud, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2011 surrounded by his family at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on May 16, 1927, he was the son of the late Pierre and Lena (Babineau) Allain. He is remembered by his son Eric (Sue nee Gautreau) Allain, daughter Denise (Todd) Hovey; granddaughters Lauren and Ashley Hovey, who affectionately referred to him as Pepper; sister Doreen (the late Fritz) deBos; brothers Norman (Leanne) Allen, and Clarence Allain (Wendy Gilbert). He will also be missed by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Edgar was a true west-sider, born and raised on Rodney Street. He joined the Merchant Navy as a teen, and after the war worked for the Coast Guard. He joined the RCAF as a firefighter, he also worked for Harbour Development in Vietnam, and NBTel for 20 years. Edgar enjoyed bowling, snooker, baseball, and spending time with his family. Edgar was a solemn, well read man. He was kind, generous, and always concerned about his family. Resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John West (634-1701) with visiting on Thursday, November 3, 2011 from 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday November 4, 2011 from 2 to 4, and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption. The interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, and the reception at the Fallsview Family Reception Centre, 309 Lancaster Ave. The family would like to thank Edgar's homecare provider and friend Anne Grant for her constant support, and the staff of 4C north and 3B north at the Saint John Regional Hospital for the kindness and compassion shown to our dad. Donations in Edgar's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, or the charity of one's choice.
