Steeves, Ensley Murray It is with sadness that the family of Ensley M. Steeves announce his death on Tuesday, July 5th, 2011 at the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital. Formerly of Point Road (Lorneville) Saint John, New Brunswick, husband for 50 years of the late Florence G. (Reid). Ensley was born in Saint John, NB on April 9th 1918. A son of the late William James and Sarah (Galbraith) Steeves, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Ensley, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 69, was a veteran of World War II serving as a signalman in the Canadian Army from 1941-1945 and was wounded in France. In his early years he worked with his father as a Salmon Fisherman, and at the Saint John Winterport. He later went on to work as an Inspector for the Department of Fisheries from where he retired after 35 years of service. Spending the greater part of his life in Lorneville, Ensley was a member of Carleton Kirk United Church. He is survived by two daughters, Susan Steeves (Michael) of Edmonton, Alberta and Cindy (Stephen) Foster of Starkville, Mississippi, two grandchildren, Ian and Katie Foster; special friend, Pauline Allen; as well as, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife he was predeceased by his sisters Venus Ferguson and Ila Leigh. Funeral arrangements are under the direction Castle Funeral Home, “Fallsview Chapel”, 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John West, (634-1701)By request there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 09, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. from Castle Funeral Home with burial in the Lorneville Cemetery. Donations to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to thank staff and doctors of 5C South and Palliative Care at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their excellent care and compassion.
