Obituary of Verna Cunningham

Due to the weather, Visitation has been cancelled for today. There will be Visiting hours from 11 am - 1pm Wednesday, January 28, 2015. Funeral Service still being held at 2pm. Mrs. Verna Olive Cunningham passed away peacefully at her residence at Shannex Embassy Hall on January 22nd, 2015. Born in West Devon Prince Edward Island on March 21 1929, she was the daughter of the late Llewellyn and Winnifred Sharp (Rayner). Verna enjoyed her time at the Protestant Orphanage where she cared for the babies and toddlers. She also worked at several diners around the city and retired from Keddy’s Motor Inn. Verna loved animals especially her cats, knitting, bingo and she had a green thumb for her many house plants. She was a wonderful mother of six children. Survived by two sons, David Cunningham (Fern McCavour) of Saint John, Shawn Cunningham of Fredericton, four daughters Sharon Cunningham (Donat) of Willow Grove, Pamela Magarvey (Eric) of Rothesay, Linda Beal (Peter) of Saint John, and Sandra Hatfield (Brad) of Saint John, two brothers Olen and Elwin Sharp of PEI. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband George, siblings Jean Campbell, Eva Culton, Erwin Sharp, Percy Sharp, Samantha Adams, Oswald Sharp,and Vivian James.Grandson Shane Lutwick, and a dear friend Dale Grass. In honour of Mrs. Cunninghams wishes , cremation will take place and visitation will be at Castle Funeral Home (Fallsview) on Wednesday January 28 from 11am - 1 pm with the funeral being on Wednesday January 28th at 2pm at the Castle Funeral Home chapel with a reception to follow. A private family burial will follow at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Donations to the Saint John Animal Rescue league/SPCA or Parkland in the Valley Embassy Hall Recreation fund (ATTN: Holly Urquhart 70 Swanton Dr. Quispamsis E2E 0M3) would be greatly appreciated by the family. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the loving staff of embassy, in particular Leeann, Cindy, Jackie, Bonnie and so many more. She loved them all and they were so good to mom.
