Obituary of Phyllis (Renton) Kennedy

(Renton) Kennedy, Phyllis May (Campbell) Passed away at her residence, on Sunday, September 30, 2012. Born on January 21, 1920 in Vancouver, B.C. she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Lorena (Thompson) Campbell. Phyllis was predeceased by her first husband, Morton Renton and second husband, Nelson Kennedy. She was educated in a one room school house in Dipper Harbour and attended Modern Business College. She was active in the Dipper Harbour Baptist Church, Fundy Heights Church and then Hillcrest Baptist Church. Phyllis worked in a hotel in St. George during the war, where she met Mort Renton, who was stationed at Pennfield. She went on to work for Barker’s Grocery Stores and was in charge of Accounting for all the stores. Before her prolonged illness, she was very active in her church, bowling and loved to travel. She is survived by her sons, Bruce (Jo-Anne) and Gregory (Debra Lee), both of Dipper Harbour; daughter, Deanna (Robert) Vlug, of Dipper Harbour; step-sons, Gregory and Perry Kennedy; grandchildren, Owen (Michelle) Vlug, Sara Vlug, Laura (Trevor) Snow, Daniel Renton, Amy Renton, Michael Renton (Lindsay Woods), Matthew Renton, Scott Renton, Brian Renton (Kim Gibbons) and Ashlene Renton; great grandchildren, Christopher Vlug, Nathan Vlug, Jenna Snow, Maia Snow, Isabella Renton and Isla Woods; sisters, Hazel Stephens, Saint John, Pauline Lauder, of Augusta, Maine, Anne Totten, of Belleville, Ontario and Virginia Thompson, of Ottawa; aunt, Frances Thompson, of Vancouver; cousin, Darlene Barling, of Vancouver; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by her brother, Clifford Campbell and sister, Alice Campbell. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, “Fallsview Chapel”, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John West (634-1701) visitation will take place on Monday, October 01, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, October 02, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 03, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. from Castle Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service at the Fallsview Family reception Center and interment will take place in Maces Bay Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
