Obituary of Phyllis Idora Eleanor Bernard

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Idora Eleanor (Cameron) Bernard, which occurred on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at her residence. Born in Hampstead, NB on March 6, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Burnham and Idora (Gerow) Cameron.

Phyllis married the love of her life, Don in 1949. They loved travelling together, they visited Europe, The U.S, Caribbean, and western Canada. Phyllis kept a memory book that she’d fill with all their journeys together. She had a great zest for life, an amazing sense of humour, and an interest in everything, which is how she made many close friends through the years, she was a joy to spend time with. Phyllis worked at Dominion Stores Ltd as the head cashier for 23 years and then worked for the Saint John Regional Library until her retirement in 1990. She was associated with the Royal and Naval Association, United Empire Loyalists, Clan Cameron Association, and a longtime member of Main Street Baptist Church (Now Rivercross Church).

Phyllis is survived by her nephews, John Cameron (Jan), Vern Dalgleish (Linda), Carl Cameron (Shareen), Don Lutes (Joan); nieces, Carol Ann Earle, Donna Cochrane (Doug); cousin, Marjorie (Gerow) Seeley. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Donald Bernard; sisters, Mary Moore, Thelma Sodero; nephews, Brian Moore, Eugene Cameron, and her niece, Mary Lee Atkinson.

Arrangements are under the care of Castle Fallsview Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3, 506-634-1701. Visitation will take place on Monday, December 6, 2021, beginning at 10:30 AM with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM. Interment will take place in Central Hampstead Baptist Cemetery after the service. Donations in memory of Phyllis may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, Rivercross Church, or Central Hampstead Baptist Cemetery. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com
